PAWS Chicago 2009 Runner Profile

Amanda Hughes

Age: 23 , Occupation: Freelance reporter

What Motivated You to Join The PAWS Chicago 2009 Marathon Team?
I hope to bring a homeless animal into my family in the next few months, but in the meantime I'd like to know s/he has a safe place to be.

Is this your first marathon?
Yes.

On mile 20, what will you think of to keep going?
My boyfriend, Pryce, and the veggie burrito he'll buy me after I finish!

What obstacles, fears or challenges are you overcoming by running the marathon?
I'm pretty clumsy, and I was never a very athletic person before I started running. It's great to be good at something physical without tripping over my own two feet!

Why PAWS Chicago?
I love that it's a no-kill organization. Every animal's life should be treated with respect. For me, the way a person treats animals is an easy way to gauge his/her personality. I know PAWS Chicago's staff and volunteers are good people, and I'd like to help them out if I can.
