Run for PAWS Chicago in the 2009 Bank of America Chicago Marathon or the 2009 Rock 'n' Roll Chicago Half Marathon

PAWS Chicago 2009 Runner Profile

Amber Sifford

Age: 26 , Occupation: Account Executive

What Motivated You to Join The PAWS Chicago 2009 Marathon Team?
I come from a family full of rescue dogs and I own one myself. Loving these animals that would have been put to death without rescue groups like Paws made me want to do something to save even more animals. People may say I saved my dog's life, but she returns the favor each and every day so running a half marathon is the least I can do for her since she's such a blessing in my life as are the other rescues in my family.

Is this your first marathon?
This will be my first half marathon. I am nervous but excited!

On mile 20, what will you think of to keep going?
I am going to think about my family and think about how every step is helping to save the life of a dog or cat just like Riley, Mike, Jake, and Buddy.

What obstacles, fears or challenges are you overcoming by running the marathon?
I think it will prove to me that I can do anything if I put my mind to it. It will prove to me that I am capable of a lot more than I thought and if I can do this, the sky is the limit.

Why PAWS Chicago?
I definitely wanted to support the fundraising efforts for PAWS because I am so passionate about animals, particularly dogs. I think as humans, we have to protect and take care of these animals that we've domesticated. We are their voice and I really feel like rescued animals make the most amazing pets. There is no animal more loyal and loving than a rescue!!

How did you find out about the PAWS Chicago 2009 Marathon Team?
I did the "Run For Their Lives" 8K last summer so I received some e-mails inviting me to join the Half Marathon team and I thought it sounded like a great opportunity to challenge myself and to help a great cause.
