PAWS Chicago 2009 Runner Profile

Beth Morris

Age: 28 , Occupation: Attorney

What Motivated You to Join The PAWS Chicago 2009 Marathon Team?
I have always wanted to run the Chicago Marathon, but I thought it was important to have a great support network and to raise money for a cause I believe in strongly as well. The PAWS Chicago Marathon Team fit the bill perfectly!

Is this your first marathon?
Yes, and I couldn't be more excited!

On mile 20, what will you think of to keep going?
Hang in there - I am only 6.2 miles away from a big bowl of mashed potatoes, my all time favorite food! In all seriousness, though, I will be thinking about what an amazing opportunity this is. Running a marathon is nothing compared to the wonderful life-saving work that PAWS Chicago does for animals looking for their forever home. I will also be thinking about all of the wonderful family and friends who have supported me on my journey to the starting line. If they have faith in me, I know I can finish the race!

What obstacles, fears or challenges are you overcoming by running the marathon?
I have never been a particularly athletic person (which is quite possibly the ultimate in understatements), and my challenge is shaking up that notion about myself. I am excited to have this chance to set my mind to a goal that will leave me happier and healthier while raising money for a great organization.

Why PAWS Chicago?
My husband Greg and I adopted our two dogs, Sheila (on the right) and Lucy (on the left), who were roommates at the Adoption Center, in October 2007, and we have been continually impressed by PAWS Chicago ever since, with all of the work they do both locally and for other organizations.

How did you find out about the PAWS Chicago 2009 Marathon Team?
I found out through the website initially when last year's team was training; it looked like so much fun, I knew I wanted to join in at the next possible opportunity. I signed up for the 2009 team after joining the Professional Board and hearing about sign-ups at a meeting.
