PAWS Chicago 2009 Runner Profile

Angela Harrison

Age: 30 , Occupation: Retail Manager

What Motivated You to Join The PAWS Chicago 2009 Marathon Team?
I have been running for a couple of years now again and really wanted to do a marathon for the first time. I wanted to do it for myself, but I also felt that it was a great opportunity to raise money for a charity that I really believe in...

Is this your first marathon?
Yes!

On mile 20, what will you think of to keep going?
That I'm almost there, that all I need to do is what I do every other day, which is run 6 more miles... That my family and friends will hopefully be near the finish cheering for me... and that we all will be eating delicious Thai food later that evening.

Why PAWS Chicago?
Although my dog Bean was not from PAWS, a gracious couple rescued her from one of those mass breeders you always here about from infamous Kankakee, IL, who kept her in a wire bottom cage her entire life. She was of no use to these horrible people anymore because her last two litters were stillbirths. After the couple rehabilitated her for an entire year, she still had the social skills of a beaten down almost feral dog. Her hind legs were and are permanently under developed and she puts all of her weight on her front paws. Her social skills have improved a lot in the three years we've had her, but she'll never be a "normal dog". PAWS regularly rescues animals from these situations. It takes a lot of money and time to do what they do. I am grateful that they are around and want them to thrive. I hope to raise more then the minimum.
